Creating a BURNTEXT file

Last Updated 2 years ago

When sending a CAD file with DrawTech objects to another trade/AutoCAD user. Sometimes, we will need to make that CAD file compliant with non-DrawTech applications. We can do this in a few ways. One of those ways is running the CAD file through the BURNTEXT routine.

This routine will take all DrawTech labels and graphics and then convert them into basic AutoCAD objects such as MTEXT and Lines. Do to this, we will need to start the BURNTEXT routine by either clicking the appropriate button for it or running the command DtLabelExport.

When you begin this routine you will be prompted with a notification of what will occur with the routine, be mindful of this. The routine will SAVE your drawing and then attempt to run a SAVE-AS. The purpose of this is to create a new file for the newly burned labels.

By default, it will be drawingname+burnedtext.dwg, we recommend you leave it like this because it is possible to save over your working drawing. In the event this occurs, if you do not have any backups/recovery files, there is no method to recover your working drawing.

Once you accept the tile to be saved, follow the prompts to confirm that you want to keep labels and then select your objects to have their labels burned. Once you have done that, the routine will run and then convert the labels as necessary. Once the routine is complete, you will see that the DrawTech Label Grips have been replaced with AutoCAD grips, indicating that the labels have been converted into MTEXT objects.

At this point, save the drawing and send to the other user, they should be able to see the text objects.
